Hi all

what is the best way to model in H0 short-coupled (prototype!) 3 axle KPEV (or DRG) coaches of the Abteilwagen type (the one where every compartment has it's own pair of doors). I noticed that Roco has currently a pair of more "modern" DR cars (article 44586 & pix) but I presume there used to be similar sets for the DRG or KPEV.
The intended use is more less the old equivalent of commuter or S-Bahn trains (Hamburg, Berlin etc.) (I'm wondering also at which time in Hamburg they created cab-cars out of these coaches, using a BR 74 at the other end, in S-Bahn services. The pix I have is from 1951, shortly before retirement of the steam service Suelldorf-Wedel)

Hi Jens,

I can't help you that much further on the scratch issue, but some Era 1 H0-photomaterial of the Roco sets can be found at:

http://osterthun.com/0Laenderbahnen/Personenwagen/R43026~K2.htm

http://osterthun.com/0Laenderbahnen/Personenwagen/R43026~K3.htm

These models came (as you say indeed) with the Prussian T 12

Let me guess: Roco 43026 is (was?) a set with loco and two times two cars?

I'm not so far for scratch building but more for which articles to hunt for. Roco or others. And if these are only available 2nd hand?

The cab car issue is more a curiosity item. 8)

Yep, I guess so. They are Limited edition 1986/87.
I do not have these sets myself, since I don't run AC, left the 44499, a fine set of coaches indeed.

Forgot to say that Märklin had three sets as well, not as fine in color and shape as these Roco gems.
You can find them also in my list (viz. 4207, 4208 and 4209).

Please check on: http://osterthun.com/0Laenderbahnen/Personenwagen/3achs/3ax.persw.preus.htm

By clicking on the art.number (left hand colon), you get the adjecent pictures.

Chüß,
Frits

In the book, "100 years of passenger cars on the EST railway" (sorry I don't have the exact title in French - I moved to a new house and am still searching boxes to find the remote for my DVD player, among other things), I remember reading that the EST bought a pair of these cars, but they weren't satisfactory to the EST.

Does anyone remember this statement, know where it might be, and / or know anything more about these cars?

On the issue of the cab-coaches I mentioned above: these were former ET99 electric S-Bahn cars (the old AC version) de-motorized and stripped of their pantos. two coaches have 3 trucks (one shared, type Jakop)
