Gn15 @ WorldRailFans

Everyone likes narrow gauge!

If you don't agree with this, best leave now because you are obviously not narrow-minded enough to model in Gn15.

There have not been many 15" gauge railways and many of these were fairground attractions, but 15" gauge has been shown to be the narrowest practical gauge for commercial use and has been dubbed "The minimum gauge".

Modelling in Gn15 is fun!

If you are a "rivet-counter", best leave now because modelling in Gn15 is about having fun and not taking things too seriously with lots of "what if"s and improvisation.

Still here?

Good, then it looks like Gn15 modelling might be for you, so tag along and let's explore the joy of modelling BIG trains in a small space.

15" gauge has typically been used for two quite dissimilar purposes:

practical, functional :-  where it has been used to transport real materials and goods (occasionally people too) on something like a large English family estate (house); for instance Sir Arthur Heywood's family home at Duffield Bank in Derbyshire. Although 15" gauge industrial railways existed, they were much less common than 2' in Great Britain.

pure pleasure :- often as an addition to a large fair or exhibition (such as the Liverpool Garden Exhibition) or one or two of the large public pleasure lines such as the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch or Ravenglass and Eskdale.

Gn15 modelling is what you might call "fringe" or "niche" and there is a small, but steadily growing range of models in this scale. G-scale (1:22.5) has been made popular by LGB over the years and there is a very large selection of accessories, figures and even structures if you want them. Also, many accessories in scales between 1:20 and 1:24 can be usable as people naturally vary in size anyway. 1:24 is quite a common scale for motoring and military models so vehicles and so forth can be easily found to go along with your Gn15 trains.

Narrow-minded
and proud of it!
