Quarry Hunslets

This gallery is devoted to narrow-gauge Hunslets previously used in various slate quarries throughout North Wales. A very high proportion of these have survived in to preservation and can be found all over Great Britain (and in some cases overseas).

All photos by unless otherwise credited.

(these are all full-size, see the Model Narrow Gauge Hunslet gallery for models)

Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Society's quarry Hunslet "CLOISTER" visiting the Amberley Working Museum's Railway Gala Weekend, 13th and 14th July 2002.

Quarry locos usually did not have cabs due to restricted clearances. Most preserved Hunslets have cabs, CLOISTER has been left "open".

"JERRY M" at the Hollycombe Steam Collection, May 2002.

JERRY M is larger than an ALICE class such as CLOISTER and therefore was not used in the quarry itself but on the "mainline" taking dressed (finished) slates for onward shipping.
