7¼" gauge in the garden

Eastern Bay of Plenty Model Engineering Society (Whakatane) - dual-gauge 5" and 7¼"

January 2010

John Bremner and I headed off to Whakatane for their open weekend in January 2010. The club (membership) and the track are both relatively small but it is a friendly and welcoming group and we both had a great day out.

It was fairly quiet on the Saturday we were there with a group of about six members from Rotorua, John Bremner and myself, along with the "locals".

John Heald's Kerr Stuart is a delightful loco to drive

All of the facing points on the track are of the "stub" design; this one being powered

A view from the amphitheatre at the far end of the track

The covered platform was a boon when the sun came out (though not in this view)

Johns Bremner (left) and Heald (right) discuss the finer points of ... something

And when it started raining towards the end of the day, a good amount of "jawing" took place

I can thoroughly recommend a visit to the track and look forward to my next trip over to the eastern Bay of Plenty.
