The Welshpool & Llanfair Railway is one of only a handful of 2' 6" gauge railways in the UK; the majority of similar lines being (nominally) 2' gauge. As a result, when the railway was taken over by the preservation society they had to look far and wide to find suitable equipment to operate the railway, resulting in one of the most diverse and interesting collections in the British Isles. I can thoroughly recommend a visit to the line.
The Earl on the right, one of the two
original locos (both still running) passes a Rumanian, Resita-built
0-8-0T.
Typical pastoral scenery along the line.
One of two Rumanian, Resita-built 0-8-0Ts (the other being a kit of parts in the workshop).
The ex-Sierra Leone Government Railway 2-6-2T. There are also some Sierra Leone bogie coaches on the line.
Hungarian bogie-coach.
One of several Austrian (ex-Zillertalbahn) 4-wheel coaches on the line.
