Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway - 15" gauge

Visit the official website: www.ravenglass-railway.co.uk

Opened in 1915, the Ravenglass & Eskdale is one of the oldest miniature railways in the world and runs through the Lake District in the north of England. It is a delightful seven mile ride each way and I can thoroughly recommend a visit to the railway.

SYNOLDA, an original Bassett-Lowke 4-4-2. Though not from the early years of the railway, it is identical to SANS PAREIL that ran here from 1915
(The line was originally built to 3' gauge and converted to 15" gauge in 1915)

RIVER IRT (on the right) waits for the diesel DOUGLAS FERREIRA to enter the station at Ravenglass
RIVER IRT was rebuilt in 1927 from Sir Arthur Heywood's loco MURIEL

RIVER ESK nearly ready to leave Ravenglass
RIVER ESK was built in 1923 in the same workshop as most of the locos on the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch. She has been at Ravenglass since built

The lower section of the line runs along the river estuary
