A group of members from Hamilton made the pilgrimage to Havelock North for their annual open-house over Labour Weekend.

As always we were made to feel at home and a great weekend was had by all.

Dave Giles offered me a drive of his Shay - and I wasn't about to say no!

Me driving Dennis Searle's NZR-WAB

Gerard Moat with his father's Koppel rack loco - I love this

John Heald's (partner's) grandson is a bloomin' good driver

Chris Drowley from Wellington brought his very nice ALCO RS1

And a very nice model of Sacramento Northern 653 (yes, 653, not 365 as on the nmodel) - a GE steeple-cab electric from 1928

The original it is preserved at the 'Orange Empire Railway Museum' in California. http://www.oerm.org/pages/sn653.html The model is powered by two, double ended, 400watt 24v dc motors mounted in the center of each bogie with a reduction chain drive from each end of each motor to one of the axles. Two 130 amp/hr x 12v deep cycle batteries are in the central cab and control is by a 4QD Vortex 75 controller
