Visit the official website: www.bvrw.co.uk The Bure Valley Railway is a delightful nine mile long route in Norfolk between the towns of Aylsham and Wroxham. The line was built along a former standard-gauge line but it now incorporates a tunnel under a main road. I was made to feel most welcome during my (very) short visit to the line and can thoroughly recommend a vist.
SPITFIRE inside the workshops at Aylsham - which you are allowed to walk around
MARK TIMOTHY getting ready to take a train to Wroxham. The loco is based on a Leek & Manifold (Irish) 2-6-4T and is huge for a "miniature" loco. You can comfortably seat two on the footplate and perhaps three at a push
The BVR uses very unconventional couplers - basically 50mm car and trailer ball-hitches
There are no conventional signals on the line but they use radio (as pioneered by the Ravenglass & Eskdale). You can see the radio mounted under the cab roof
I was offered (and accepted) a footplate ride from Wroxham back to Aylsham and here's the view out of the fireman's-side window of SPITFIRE in a passing loop
