I visited the Auckland club for their open weekend in September 2008. I don't normally go much on raised tracks as they limit the complexity of the circuit, but the Auckland track has made great use of the space they have and they also have a neat section of flexible track. I have never seen anything like it before and it is a functional way to get around not being able to have pointwork on a raised track.

I went with John Bremner and Alan Ure who took his 5" gauge American logging-style 2-8-2T. The loco is a nice balance between a detailed model but built to be a practical "running" loco. She steams well and drove happily for about six hours without much attention other than coal and water. She also has a great sounding exhaust beat!
