Königlich Württembergische Staats-Eisenbahn Ts 3

This model is based on one of four 0-6-0T locos built for the metre-gauge Württembergische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft  (WEG) in 1901 and allocated the numbers 1s to 4s. The locos were built in Berlin by Borsig and were essentially a narrow-gauge version of a Prussian T3, a small standard gauge design also built by them.

Almost immediately after arrival, some of the WEG was converted to standard gauge and one of the locos was sold to the Königlich Württembergische Staats-Eisenbahn (K.W.St.E.) where it was allocated their class number Ts 3 and the running number 9. After the K.W.St.E. was incorporated into the DRG in 1924 it was allocated the number 99 121. The remaining three locos were kept by the WEG. Loco number 2s survives in the care of the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde e.V. on the Amstetten to Oppingen line. Awaiting restoration as of 2009.

Although actually a metre-gauge prototype, Märklin made it in 0e (750mm). The model does capture the look of the prototype (and many other German narrow gauge locos) and if you can live with mixing metre-gauge prototypes with 750mm gauge on the same layout it can be made in to a nice model. As so little is available in 0e it is worth the effort to convert it to 2-rail DC.

2-rail DC conversion and super-detailing

A lot of the detailing (pipework, etc.) needs to be replaced and although the valvegear of the loco is rather basic, it is a good starting point. Henke Modellbau and Addie Modell both produce a set of replacement, insulated wheels and also sell detailing parts.

sb Modellbau also produce a remotoring kit for this loco.
