0e - 0-scale modeling of 750/760mm (2'6") gauge

Introduction

The Historischer Eisenbahnverein Schwaben is (will be) a model of a totally fictitious preserved railway in southern Germany.

Being a preserved railway I have an excuse to run a more varied collection of locomotives and rolling-stock than I would if I was modelling one specific railway. My inspiration is the 750mm gauge Öchsle Schmalspurbahn e.V. in Germany and the  2'6" (760mm) gauge Welshpool and Llanfair Railway in Wales, both of which run stock from other countries. In the case of the Welshpool and Llanfair this includes: Austria, Hungary, Romania, Finland, Antigua, Taiwan and Sierra Leone. There has also been quite a lot of "shuffling" of equipment between lines in Europe, especially since the demise of communism, so there is a precedent for running a mixture of stock from all over Europe and not just from 750/760mm gauge lines.

I haven't actually built anything yet, but I am spending a lot of time planning. In order to establish a convincing framework for the layout, I asked a friend in Bavaria to come up with some fictitious but genuine-sounding names for my future layout. This is what he came up with:

Niederlechfeld

There are several Lechfeld s, but not a Nieder'

Oberbachtal

Westerstädten am Mühlberg

Illerbergen

There's an Illerbeuren, not 'bergen

Staudenberg a. d. Schmutter

The Staudenbahn is not far from Augsburg

Pfarrhofen

Kirchhofen-Pfaffenheim

Markt Felding

Oberfahlheim i. Schwaben

Großkirchheim

Kleinkleckersdorf

Not sure about this one, it sounds a bit juvenile

Bad Wörishausen

Weitingen

'ingen is a typical ending for a Schwabian town name

Mittelkötz

At least when I do get to build my line I have lots of potential names to choose from.
